Tatula SV gear ratio

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I'm about to pick up the newer Tatula SV for a Medium Light casting rod and stuck between gear ratios. Ill be using it for light underspins, shallow cranks and squarebills in the 1/4 oz weight. Normally id grab a 7:1 which would pick up 30" of line but with the SV reels a 7:1 picks up 28" and the 8:1 grabs 32". Should I get one slightly faster than I'm used to or slightly slower. Or am I just overthinking this, Thanks!

For those applications I like a 6 or 7 ratio, and I think I tend to prefer faster reels compared to most seasoned bass fishermen. Specifically, I find myself using a 6.3:1 (26.3 IPT) or a 7.1:1 (28 IPT) reel. I never think to myself, "I wish I could reel these faster" but I do frequently find myself retrieving too quickly if I'm not focused.

you might be SLIGHTLY over thinking but hey, that's not a bad thing. i'd stick with the 7:1 if i was on the fence between the two.
