New spinning rod suggestions

Featured Replies

I am in the market for a new spinning rod. Budget is around $350 -$400.

This will be for river smallmouth lures weights 1/8 - 1/2 ounce range but most 3/8 lures on the high end. Mainly looking for an all purpose plastics/jerk/spinner bait rod 6’6” - 7’ range

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Not to worry, it will get moved.

Do you want tp spend $400 USD or less?

What reel & line do you use/prefer??

Daiwa BLX-JDM series or Megabass, need to check those.

I’d prefer to stay under $400. I have a couple older SC premier and avids and a real old g loomis imx UL for reference.

I have a few 2500/3000 steadics and vanfords and generally run 15 or 20 # smackdown.

I’m not familiar with Daiwa or megabass rods since they aren’t stocked in my local store. Which mega bass is a good choice in the $400 usd range?

Daiwa Tatula 6’6” Medium $150

I have the St Croix Victory VTS71MF with Vanford 2500, good combo. Started with the VTS610MFX it’s was horrible, noodle rod.

Smack down 20 lb for me didn’t cast well, 15 or  10 lb would be better choice. I currently use straight Maxima Ultra Green 5 lb or 7 lb Sunline Sniper for my finesse presentations.

lots of options in that range, megabass orochi xx, shimano expride, loomis imx pro, diawa blm, and others im not thinking of . take your pick.

St croix legend elite 7ft MF can be gotten for less than $400 with promo codes and is a great rod.  Also Hookup tackle is giving you $100 gift card now if you buy one I bought mine last year with that promotion.
