The red Lew's Mach Smash combo

Featured Replies

Anyone use this? I know what to expect out of the reel, but what about the rod? Looking at the 6'10" version of the combo. It says 3/8 to 3/4 ounce lure weights. The 7'2" is 1/4 to 1 ounce. Both MH. Looking at the 6'10" specifically because it would be for my son's 14 yo buddy who wants to get into fishing with us. He's the same size as my son, and my son doesn't like anything 7' or more, finds it cumbersome. I was trying to find a 6'6" MH/F Daiwa Aird-X but they're impossible to find in that length online. Someone in the flea market section directed me towards DSG, but ordering a rod or combo from DSG means you're getting a two piece.

How would the 6'10" Smash handle 1/4 ounce weights and sometimes maxing out the 3/4 ounce weight limit? Is it a true fast?

I have no helpful information, just wanted to throw out there that I saw Abu is having a sale on this combo

use code Vengeancebmc1 and the price drops to $65. Maybe not a bad option for your use

My local hooked on fishing club buys the smash casting and spinning combos to give kids who join the high school fishing club. They are entry level gear like any other combo in that price range but the kids seem to like the color. Academy has the Hack attack casting combo, think it's $159, reel is dual brake instead of magnetic. The rods aren't that bad, we had one kid slinging a 3/4 jig with a spark shad with one last spring picking off the deep schools. Easily a little over an ounce with no problems, pretty sure we only donate the 6'10 version.
