I have a couple questions on a 1996 Johnson 70 hp, where's alternator & where can I buy the protective boot on the trim button at the control box.

The alternator is adjacent to the Fetzer Valve but you have to remove the Flux Capacitor to get to it. Not too hard if you have some 3-in-1 Oil and a 4" Bearing Retainer wrench though.

The replacement boots are harder to come by. Try Lady Footlocker.

Your ahead of me, I know Suzuki but not on this Johnson 

It does not have an altenator it has a stator and it's located under the flywheel but get me the numbers and I can help you out.

Chances are if its not charging it's most likely the regulator,
