Tatula SV vs Curado DC

Featured Replies

Maybe its already been discussed here but which one (in your opinion) is the better reel?

I got the Tatula as a finesse/lighter baits reel but I've been unimpressed with the "smoothness" of the reel. I've tried lubing/oiling and has not helped.  However, It does work great for what it is intended for. I have an opportunity at a curado DC and am curious if I should pounce on it or deal with the Tatula? I guess my main concern is will the DC perform as well as the Tatula with finesse and lighter presentations?

So just concentrate on fishing and forget about it. If you can't then just buy an Alphas 800.

No.

Just how finesse/lighter are we talking about?  According to TT's review the Alphas 800 is good down to 1/4 oz. total weight.  I've got quite a few reels that will handle that weight.  Mostly all older.  I don't know whether or not the reels would be smooth enough for the OP.

New reels that may handle that weight that I bought still sit in boxes....16 Scorpion 71HG, 19 Scorpion MGL, SLX 71 MGL and Lew's Tournament Pro LFS.

OP, from what I've read DC reels aren't the best with light lures.  I only have one...an older Exsence DC...but have only used it on MH rods.  Seems darn smooth to me, but I am not as adept at noticing the little things as most people are.  The difference usually has to be outstanding for me to notice.  :(

Update.

I stripped the tatula down for the second time but this time did a deep clean and relube/oil. Mainly targeting gears and spool bearings. So far, (fingers crossed) it seems alot better. Haven't gotten to take it out and throw it around yet but just reeling in hand feels much more free and smooth. We will see.

If you're looking for strictly a light finesse reel I'd look into the new BFS reels.
