LED nav lights.

Featured Replies

I upgraded the bulbs in my boat's navigation lights to LEDs. Wow, what a difference. The old bulbs, bow and stern, draw 3 amps of current. The new LED bulbs, bow and stern, draw .3 (point 3) amps. that is 10X less current and the new LEDs are much brighter. No worries about killing the battery when night fishing.

I use an aftermarket AA cell stern light when anchored with the motor shut off , so my only battery drain is the fishfinder.

I saw the positive statements in this thread so I purchased a set for my nav lights and I am disappointed.

They are half as bright as my regular filament bulbs, the green nav light shows up as blue and with shipping they cost me $25.00.

I am not sure why you would have that issue. Did you buy warm white or Bright white? I did not have those issues at all.

My problem with the AA cell powered stern LED light is it is SO bright. The old bulb light was much dimmer. The LED is almost blinding.

I agree. The ones I have are much brighter than the incandescent bulbs.

My lights use the 906 base bulb and the only option was "bright white".

I compared it to the regular bulb and LED was no where near as bright.

What LED bulb did you get from the website?

LEDs are very directional.

if you got this one.

all your light is going to go in one direction

this one would be a good choice for an all around light.

I got the first one with the 9 LEDs. I was worried about clearence in the light housing.

BTW I was surprised to see that the bulbs are polarity sensitive.

Maybe I'll try a little reflecting foil in the top of the light fixture to provide more light.

I can see where you have an issue. all your light is going straight up.

I would try to exchange them for a different style. You should be happy with what you purchased. They have a 30 money back guarantee.

I'll might try that but they charged me $10 for shipping and if I go with bigger bulbs then it's another $25 with shipping.

BTW the foil did not work.

Check out www.superbrightleds.com as well.  I have used them for years and their customer service is great.

I run LED's all around on my truck because of the look, but also the less power means the alt works less and the battery stays live longer.

The brighter you get, the better.  Go with a multidirection LED bulb and be sure to test them out before screwing anything closed because of the polarity thing.

Good luck!

Matt

Thanks Matt

I have seen that site as well. He will still need to get an LED bulb that shines in all directions. I feel he would be better off exchanging what he has for something else.

this one should work well.
