Help me "make an offer" on an old aluminum V-bottom

Featured Replies

A buddy of mine's dad has an old V bottom aluminum boat. I wanted to buy one to 'restore' and just have fun making modifications. It's in decent shape, just dirty with a few scratches. He think's its 12 ft (but he going to measure it for me tonight). He told me to make him an offer but I honestly have no idea where to start. There's no motors or trailer included so it's just an old aluminum V-bottom. Any ideas on what I should offer? I can get a pic of it and post it tomorrow, but I was thinking like $200? Is that too low/high?

i would say depending on the year, you should start at 175 if its 2000 or older, maybe $200 if its younger than that.

I bet this thing is from the 70's :) I just want something to mess around with. I always wanted to mod my own boat and this seems like the perfect boat to start with.

Thanks for the info guys!

I would say a $100 - $200 would be pretty decent. you could always check craiglist for comparable boats for a price point.

Looks like boats of that size WITH a trailer go for around 3 to 4 hundred in my area... It hard finding a trailer only anymore haha. I think something this small I will throw on top of the Jeep until I find a cheap trailer.

I found a free 19 ft. bayliner on craigslist. The boat is free but the guy is selling the motor and trailer separate (or trading for a riding mower). I should snag that baby and try and sell it HA.

lol...kinda clever

that boat looks like a money pit!

Those 80'sand early 90's Bayliner where generally POS new

Don't know about their later years quality

Me thinks he's got a boat he can't get rid off lol

If you do not plan on trailering it make sure you lift it before you buy it.  All 12' semi-v's are not created equal.  Some are light-weight car-toppers under 100lbs.  Thin, narrow and shallow.  Others are 200lb+ heavier gauge, wider and deeper.  Most 12fters you find lying around without trailers are car-toppers.

A Lund WC-12 or Princecraft Ungava will also have a split rear bench.  Both are highly desirable but will want to be trailered.

I agree.  Also consider that after a long day of fishing, your back, legs, and arms are a bit worn.  Therefore, unloading all your tackle, cooler, battery, TM, and topping the boat becomes quite an undesireable task.  Just something to ponder.  Good luck to you.

Way ahead of you guys :) A guy I do computer work for has a couple old boat trailers that just need lights. SCORE!

I love being a geek. It pays off! I can't wait to get this boat in my pap's shop and make some 'adjustments'.

Oh, BTW I told him whatever my 360 sold for, is what I'll give him for the boat. So I told him to figure about $100 and he agreed.
