Finesse/ shaky heads

Featured Replies

What are y’all using for finesse rods? Im a power fisherman mainly but i wanted to give shakey heads, ned rigs, dropshots a try. I know spinning rods seem to be the choice of many. not really interested in bfs. also wondering if that same spinning rod would be suitable for 1/4oz jigs. suggestions?

I use an Abu Garcia Vengeance ML for stuff like that. It works great, casts a mile. Although I will say that it’s more on the Light side than Medium. No trouble casting as light as 1/16 spinners up to 5/16 finesse jigs w/ chunk trailer. I did have trouble setting the hook on the finesse jigs, but the ones I bought were a heavier wire (6th Sense divine) than a typical finesse jig. No trouble with hookset on other finesse jigs or Ned rigs/drop shots/weightless TX rigs

IMO a spinning rod with weight rating like 1/4 ~ 5/8oz, namely, a Medium power rod, would accommodate those lures you mentioned pretty well. You could still cast 1/4oz jigs with it.

legend tournament 7 ft medium and expride 7ft medium are 2 of my favorites.

i may have a rod like that kicking around but it’s very soft with not too much backbone.

I'd say go with a Daiwa Tatula or get a St. Croix victory its promo codes available to get 10/15 percent off both to bring them around 150

Do all my shakey heads on a 7ML 47 rod from doomsday casting rod. It handles 3/16 to 1/2 spot remover jig heads just fine. I don't drop shot but my Ned rods are both Lew's spinning, a TP1 7M and a 7ML Wally Marshall rod. I never go out without a shakey head and it's usually what I start with if there isn't a topwater bite. I can catch fish in one foot to thirty foot on a shakey head most days and usually produces more fish than anything else. I've caught everything but a striper on the Ned this year I use the 1/4 for deep water on the M rod and the ML an 8th or less in the shallows. Zoom trick worms and any of the Zman Ned baits have cleaned up good for me.

I use Diawa tatulas and Rebellions in Med/Lite and also have a med in those that works great too. If your use to the bigger rods I think a med is probably going to be better. these or 150 to 200 dollar rods.
