Hobie Kayak

Featured Replies

Does anybody have a Hobie Kayak; the one with the pedals?

Seems like a great idea; I've looked at a few websites and they are somewhat expensive (compared to other kayaks).  Any opinions on them?  I seem to recall seeing one that folded up; anybody know about that one

Thanks for any input

Vaporhead;

  I bought a pedal drive Hobie last year and loved it. It allows you to move around with your rod in your hand, and it has lot's of storage space.You can peddle it all day long and not get tired. I highly recommend that if you buy one you don't get an inflatable one. Call the Hobie dealer in Allentown Pa. He will treat you right! You may have to transport it further than buying one local, but take my advice and call him. Let me know if you have any specific questions about it.

I considered one, but they seem pretty heavy to me, but that only matters when you transport/carry it. I also wondered about the paddle/peddle system when encountering weeds or shallows. If you are serious about one try or rent one for the day and see what YOU think. After all your opinion is the only one that counts.

I see a guy w/ one alot at Stone Tavern lake. he has a cooler and several tubular rod holders behind him and a fish finder mounted on the front & a canoe paddle hanging on one side to get away from the ramp. He needs to get some depth b/4 setting up the pedals.

I saw the mechanism one day and there is a gearbox so the foot pedal power is multiplied to the paddles...

I'm impressed w/ the speed he can get out of it. He covers the whole lake and catches alot of fish.

He said he paid $1,700 for it...

The Hobie Mirage Adventure Island looks like it would be fun. Not really for fishing, but a nice toy. Has a sail, outriggers, and their peddling device.  :o

Thats the hobie pro angler only problem its like 2500 bucks

I have a 07 hobie  outfitter , its a 2 seater , with a humming bird 787c sonar,ramrod holders. It was great for fishing esp trolling . i can do 3mph easy with no effort with another person  and i did love it, but recently had put a hole inside from scupper cart.that was in july. If i were you i would do your homework on hobie pedal drive systems . They do have a failure rate of cracking around  the pedal drive where it sits in the kayak . they have a 1 to 2 year warranty on that type of leak. Good luck on your choice
