I got this outboard with a 12' Jon boat I recently purchased. I know nothing about the outboard. I do know its NOT locked up and spins over freely.

Does anyone recognize this motor?

What year,make and model might it be? Any guess on HP rating?

There is a tag with some stamped numbers on it.

Not all the numbers are legible. Theres also a tag on the carburetor,but that will only tell what carb it is and that carb may have been used on many motors...right?

So does this tag give any indication on the lineage of this outboard?

That looks an awful lot like my old sears/craftsman 3.5 hp.

Searching "images vintage outboards", I found this.

Not exactly the same, but air cooled, lower unit very close if not the same, "squareish" cowl/gas tank. Possibly same manufacturer, different year or model. Also viewed from a different angle. Year unknown.

This is an Eska Gold or Golden Jet.
