I have the 2021 Shimano Scorpion DC reel. It works phenomenal. I have not used it a whole bunch but I changed out the line size to use for different techniques. I decided to open the side plate to see which line choice was selected. Well, I can not open the side plate. I slide the lever back away from the "close" symbol and it goes about half way. I can't twist the side plate or any thing. I push the lever back toward the "close" symbol and it does click and I try to turn the side plate and nothing. I loosen the tension knob and drag and still nothing. I even tried using a small screw drive to try and leverage the lever back more because when I slide it till it stops it looks like it could go back more. It will not go back any further then when I use my finger.

 

So, has anyone ever experienced this or have any tips to get my side plate off?

You need to set your cast control to Open.

Does your scorpion make the typical dc sound when casting? Mine doesn’t make the sound like the curado dc .   And yes make sure you set the cast control to open.
