How tine line to spool with a pin?

Could someone please help? I just got an ambassadeur 7000 reel with a pin in the center of the spool. I assume it's supposed to help keep the line from slipping but could use some advice with how to tie to the spool.

    Tie the arbor knot next to the pin and put light line pressure on the line and wind the line onto the spool, it will catch the pin.
