Book Recommendations

Featured Replies

Any recommendations on fisheries management books? I would really like to see what the educators use to teach A&P, ecology, limnology, etc. The internet is a great way to access this info, but it would be fantastic to have access to scholarly publications with everything in one place. I suppose I should clarify that I am looking for an introductory book with general information on freshwater fish, if that sort of thing exists.

There are a lot of books out there, but most of them, at least those from a purely professional standpoint, tend to be very technical in nature, and also very specific or limited in context. You could potentially pick up a generalized book on say, limnology, via most college book stores that might serve your needs. Another option would be something like LakeLine magazine, the publication for the North American Lake Management Society. It reads a bit less technical, and a bit more generalized in nature, and covers a wide variety of subject matter, all in regards to lake management and water quality issues, and each quarterly magazine is topic related (lake assessment, exotic species, limnology, etc.).

I would see if any of the local universities near you offer a fisheries course and ask if they offer a class for audit.  Many do and it is for a significantly lower cost and in some cases free.  You would then be able to get the information and learning without the worry of grades etc...

Contact Bob Lusk The Pond Boss.

There's a podcast called Sitting Dockside that's about pond management, much of which translates to larger scale waters as well.
