Sinking braid

Featured Replies

What is the consensus here about sinking or at least neutrally buoyant braid?   I do use the braid floating on the water as a strike indicator, so I get that part.   I just think there would be some advantages to a sinking braid at times and I thought there were some out there.   Give me your thoughts please.

Thanks!!

About the only braid I use these days for bass (spinning) is YGK SS112 sinking braid. Getting very hard to find, but I have no plans on changing until I can’t find it anymore. Wish it was more readily available, especially in the smaller sizes.

Thanks!   I will have to see if I can get my hands on some to try out.  What advantages did you see?

Hi vis; seems like very thin diameter; very supple and easy handling; 8 strand; sinks; casts great; good with knots

I have seen you mention the success / overall favorable experience with this line. I finally decided to buy some and wouldn't you know, everyone is out of stock. Once available, I am going to try 10 lbs for spinning.

I’ve been using 10 and 14 for the past several years without regret. I do have one spool of 20 I picked up when the others weren’t available, but haven’t spooled it yet. I will this year though.

Hey 99- do you know what the story is with YGK?  I started using that line a couple years back and it is easily my favorite braid.  I have a box left that I have been saving.  Have you found anything remotely as good?   I love the sinking property since it gets my Neds down faster when fishing deeper water.  Thanks.

Short answer is ‘No.’ Sufix 832 has a lot of the limpness and smoothness, but not as thin. It might sink some with the GORE fiber woven in - I’d need to test. Won’t be the same as YGK though. I still have an outfit or two with it on. The other option might be to go standard braid but smaller. I throw a ton of 3# and 4# braid (PP), having it on all my crappie outfits which I use with small jigheads and plastics. That tiny line cuts through the water well without offering much resistance.

Just wanna add to what @Team9ninementioned. I don’t have experience with YGK but did try Defier sinking D-braid at 1.14 buoyancy rate.

The D-braid is rated at 11lb or PE 0.8 but diameter is still smaller than 6lb windtamer. If you plan to get JDM braid line for bass, may be go with bigger line like 15-20lb or PE 1.5.

Now sinking braid, sufix832 sink because of Gore per mentioned above and sink faster than 1.14 D-braid. I think YGK rated @1.4 or something.

I use Sufix 832 for most of my reels from 6 to 30lb.
compared with 6lb windtamer, 8lb PP, 8 and 10lb Sufix832.
