Where to put transducer?

Featured Replies

I recently picked up a Garmin Striker 4 and am trying to decide where to mount the transducer on my F&S Eagle Talon 120. I’ve seen it’s possible to put it inside the kayak in the front storage part and just glue it in there, but I’m worried about how that will affect the performance of the sonar. I do like how it’s easy to install and it’s safer in there from getting banged up. Is it worth it to mount it on the outside, on the bottom of the boat? Or is the performance difference negligible? Thank you

With a simple sonar system like the Garmin Striker 4 you'll be fine going through the hull.

It's when you upgrade to something with side imaging that you'll need a different setup without obstructions. I use a Yak Attack Switchblade for the transducer with my Humminbird Helix 7 DI SI.
