Recently recarpeted boat

Featured Replies

I just had my bass boat recarpeted and some of the lids are extremely tight now.  The lids on the back deck are so tight I have to raise the livewell lid to be able to lift the rear compartment lids.  Any suggestions?

I've thought about taking an old pair of hair trimmers and cutting some of the carpet thinner in spots that aren't visible.  Thoughts?

electric hair clippers will work wonders....It worked great for my boat...

By you a good pair of hair clippers from Wal Mart for about $30. Trim them and then take the clipper back and tell them they won't cut hair. You won't be lying, when you get through, they probably won't.

Most all carpets they use now are a heavier weight than the past so they tighten up the gap between the lids a bunch.

I'm speechless!

Beard trimmer works great. Just replaced carpet in my Uncles boat and had to trim every lid on the boat. Used my trimmer to trim all edges and now they close fairly well, still snug. Now gotta go buy a new trimmer.

Or let your beard grow  ;D

You can also use a graphite lube. It's a "dry lube" and it works well on fabrics.

People use them in the windows of their cars to keep the felt slick...

graphite lube for windows i gotta try that.

Yeah...just go down to the auto supply and grab a can of "dry lube." It's graphite lube...use the red tip that comes with it and spray it into the felt tracks on your windows...

Make sure you spray it into the bottom felt grooves under the "window sill" and up the sides that you can see.

You'd be surprised how easily your windows will move up and down after that...

I use it in my door locks and the ignition too...
