Patching thru-hull hole in aluminum

Featured Replies

I patched a through-hull hole in the stern of my aluminum boat. It was a fitting for filling the live well that I never use. Here's how I did it.

Two large aluminum (1/8") discs, 2 smaller aluminum discs to serve as washers to spread the force evenly, 2 round rubber patches to match the aluminum discs and 1 stainless machine screw with a Nylock nut.

I used JB weld to attach the small disc to the larger disc on both pieces. Then 3M 5200 to act as a sealant at the rubber/disc point and again on the rubber/hull point.

A few pics to illustrate: pic 1- the pieces before assembly. pic 2 & 3 - views of the assembly dry-fitted. Pics 3 & 4 show the attachment of the aluminum/aluminum and how I aligned the holes in the discs and rubber.
