Featured Replies

Hello, doe's any one know anything about these on here? It has a 130 johnson on it, seem's in good shape just by checking it over. Has the original seat's in it also, gps fishfinder on dash and eagle f/f on bow mounted on t/m. Thank's Junebugman

I would definitely get information on the motor itself.  When you buy a used boat, in reality, you're paying for the motor.  If you arent as familiar with the workings of the motors, i would take it to someone who is.

I'm not familiar with that model but I used to own a 1987 Starcraft Magnum 150 with a 70 horse Johnson up until the end of 2007. It was a cool little boat. At 15'6" in length I could maneuver it into the thickest trees. It also ran well and didn't cause a lot of problems.

When buying a boat that old there are a number of things to check to make sure you aren't purchasing a headache. Spend the $150 - 200 bucks to get the motor, lower end, and compression checked by a mechanic. Check the deck and floor for soft spots which indicate wood rot and make sure the transom is sturdy and doesn't flex. Take the boat for a test ride and make sure the steering isn't stiff and make sure there isn't too much free play. Make sure all bilge and livewell pumps function.

Below is a link to a used boat checklist I found online.
