Steez Utility Player vs Megabass X-Bites

Featured Replies

For light bottom contact 1/4-3/8 stuff?

1/4 oz total weight? That’s more Steez Ags “The Sensor”. 1/4-3/8 oz bullet weight plus plastic or jigs in that weight range + plastic? Owned both, 100% prefer the Steez.

Thanks. I'm looking for 1/4oz-3/8 weight plus plastics. I have the sensor and I'm looking for something to compliment it, with a bit more power, but not a 3/8-1/2 plus plastics type of rod like BC2 or FMJ.

What made you prefer the steez if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks again.

Preferred the taper, felt snappier in my hands, I think it’s a bit more sensitive, and it’s just so ridiculously perfect for me. I personally like a very versatile rod, and this one seems to excel at a greater variety of techniques—especially moving baits.

In my hands, the X-bites felt a touch mushier on a bigger variety of baits by comparison. It gets overloaded more easily. But also just the feel of bottom contact baits on the Steez series is nicer to me. I prefer both to NRX+ rods I’ve tried, so don’t get me wrong the X-Bites is great. I just found it likes its own lane a bit more and the Steez feels more at home with a greater range. For me, the X-bites was a great all around Senko rod and handled some lighter soft plastic work quite well along with 1/4-3/8 oz jigs. I like the Steez better at those same tasks and much better on spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, and keitech swim baits.

But both are great, I’m splitting hairs here. The Steez is just my favorite “all purpose jig and worm medium heavy” rod of all time.

thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed and great answer. thanks so much.

Most of my rods are fairly short so 7'3 length is a little intimidating but it sounds ike a great rod!

I'd love to hear from anyone who prefers the Xbites, or from anyone who has both the Steez UP and the Target sniper.

Thanks!

Never handled anything over an Orochi and Im sure the X Bites is outstanding, but I got to catch a few fluke on a buddys steez(7'6 ML M) last fall and was really impressed.  The sensitivity and action is awesome and surprisingly powerful for the rating.

Owned the X-Bites and have the UP now. The UP is much more versatile and handles a wider range of baits better. To me the X-Bites has a weird taper and power combination. It's amazing for the stuff it handles well but that range is pretty small. I loved it for 5/16th-7/16th finesse jigs and 3/8oz jigs with lighter trailers. So 1/4-3/8oz t-rigs are in its range also but I didn't like going much past that in either direction. I found it to be more sensitive than the Utility Player but UP is a much more versatile rod and really fun to fish.

You are most welcome. The steez rods feel shorter than they actually are, I think because of the lightness. I actually prefer the length.

of course if memory serves the X-bites is only an inch shorter.

Thanks for uour response. I'm struggling to imagine the taper/power given the rods rating. It's listed as a heavy but never described that way. I can only assume it has like a M tip, MH mid section, becoming more heavy toward the reel seat. To me this sounds almost like the whipsnake taper only up a few powers. This is just my imagination of course.

i hid my X-bite money in a ping pong paddle.  i am shocked how difficult it is for me to let go of the cash.  haha..it is definately NOT burning a hole in my pocket that i thought it was.

i played with the X-bites when i bought my Triza at the store in phx.  i made a mental note to circle back and buy that rod "someday".    i'll plunk the cash down soon.
