I know that tying to a swivel that is connected to the bait via a split ring prevents line twist. On the other hand, does it also prevent/mitigate the fish from gaining leverage and throwing the bait/hooks too, like what swiveling hook hangers already do/try to mitigate?

 

I was thinking about the physics of a line tie/in line swivel and how it already creates a turning/rotating point against the fish and it got me thinking about swiveling hook hangers that come built inside some hard baits already.

 

Therefore, it got me thinking, if there is already the option to use a line tie/in line swivel that already creates a rotating point/force against a fish gaining leverage and throwing the bait/hooks, than there is no need for 'built in' swiveling hook hangers on the bait, right? 

Snap swivels work fine on in line spinners (NOT spinnerbaits though) and on some spoons. I have found that using them on jerk baits and crankbaits seems to negatively affect the action of the bait, and often causes the lures hooks to get caught up on the swivel when casting. I have not found that to be a problem when using a snap, most likely because the snap by itself is shorter than a snap swivel of the same strength.

Snaps or clips are used on diving crank baits for ease of lure change. 

Swivels are used as a C-rig component, added to Split rings on lures lure structure/flutter spoons to reduce line twist.

Built in hard lure swivel hook hangers are fairly new to help reduce bass from shaking the lure, not sure it helps?

Bass don’t spin when fighting, they shake their head to get rid of the lure hook.

Swivel clips have very limited use in bass fishing and used on lures that spin when retrieved like inline spinners. 

If using a spinning reel adding a small Spro swivel to the Split ring helps to reduce line twist, not needed for bait casting reels. 

I used 2 Split rings on big swimbait hook hangers to reduce the bass shaking the hook loose on hard jointed lures.
