Stradic Ci4 guys

Featured Replies

Question for you fellas. I have a stradic Ci4 2500FA I would like to get another spool for. However I can only find stradic Ci4 2500HG spools. Does anybody know if the HG spool would work on the FA? Or another spool that might work on the stradic Ci4  FA? Thanks!

You have two different things represented there.

In JDM, they identify model change years by the year itself - they offer more models of reels with different gear ratios.

The USM imported reels are all high-geared, and identify the model change year by letters - FA, FK, etc.

The HG is simply the high-gear ratio on the JDM model body that was sold with the spool you found.

The '19 Yumeya catalog page below identifies Shimano spools by pitch - spool number - for each JDM model supported by Shimano.

The only Stradic Ci4+ still supported by Shimano is 2016 model.

In '20, this model was replaced with Vanford (and a larger pitch across the range matching '18 Stella)

The catalog page indicates you'll get the right pitch compatibility for a 2500 on an S-23 medium-frame spool.  (note C2500 is a small frame reel w/ S-25 spool)

If you do have a medium frame, it will also accept a C3000 spool.

You might look here to see if this is what you're looking for '16 Stradic Ci4+

Unfortunately, I don't know enough about older Shimano reels - I've only been buying Shimano spinning reels since '19 models.

Yeah so I guess I have the 2013 version of the Ci4 stradic, I think (the FA). All the spools I can find are the 2016 model. I will check out the link. Thanks for the info.

Your best bet for a 2013 is probably to hunt on ebay - good luck.

Theres 3 generations of the Stradic Ci4.  Gen 1 is the Ci4 FA (pretty sure its FA, ill dig mine out if I have to), then you have the Ci4+ and then the Ci4 FB.

I needed a part for my FA a few years ago and Shimano had stopped making them.  The parts werent easy to get for the FA as Shimano still relied on an analog system, which was rally slow.  I remember it took 6 months to get an aux bearing cover.  It will be easier to find a spool then a random part.  Odds are they make an aftermarket that will fit, if you cant find an original.
