All day fishing my P5 FMJ.

Probably why I didn’t catch that many fish. I just kinda committed to fishing bottom contact to get the new rod some slime. :)

I paired it with a Bantam.  Line is 14Lb Sniper. My first cast in the dark was a backlash. Oops. iPhone flashlight, and I cleared it without drama.  I’ll talk about bantam when it gets more use.

the Rod. Heftier than what I imagined.  (It ain’t no X-bites where it feels like “I’m gonna break this thing”) It feels fast.  Accuracy casting calibration was needed but I homed in quickly.  I got good distances.  A 3/8th bullet weight and larger plastic flies. I could feel the baits rub up against grass and rocks.  Wind and waves were battering my kayak, so I could not concentrate on the tactile nuances.  Despite that, both my bites were subtle as heck.  The second bass, I was kicking my pedals, and cursing, trying to position back near my target.  (The tiniest grass patch in the middle of nowhere, I kept loosing track of). I was was not paying attention, but I felt the bait was “off”. I jam the hook home.  The hookset on this rod is wild.  It immediately gets into the rod and it feels good!   Just bam!   Very theatrical hook sets are possible.  Haha.  Fighting the fish is fun.   The longer handle allows me to put it hard against my forearm and get to work.   Fun rod!

if I’m lucky I’ll play again tomorrow. But we have a major freeway closure in the middle of the SF Bay Area this weekend. Getting to the Delta is problematic. :(

My FMJ doesn’t get the use it deserves.

Ive heard great things about that rod. I took out my new p5 Flyssa today. Spybait heaven...

Megabass has really stepped it up with the new US destroyers...
