Help a bassing noob with lowrance settings

Featured Replies

Hi,

Full disclosure, I have fished for over 50 years but only just getting into bass fishing and electronics.  I bought my first sonar, a Lowrance Hook2 4x.  I am having issues with it that I cannot seem to find a solution to. If you look at the picture (I have resolved the interference you see with a second battery).

1.  The main issue is the depth range shows 40 to 60 feet, rather than showing the whole water column.  This is very frustrating I cannot seem to find settings to change it anywhere.  If I change it to a different depth, it often shows no bottom, but nothing I do seems to be able to get it to show the whole water column.  The transducer offset is set to 0, I have checked many times.

2.  The double bottom, I believe I have to reduce the sensitivity for this, am I correct ?.

Thanks folks !

Easiest thing to do would probably just be to restore the unit to its factory settings. In  most cases this will be auto settings and standard scales/units. Per the Lowrance website:

Hook-4x GPS Reset Procedure

To restore the unit to default settings - go to Settings Menu/System/Restore Defaults

Then the next time you turn it on, it should be just like you installed the unit right from the box. Usually easier than trying to diagnose what exact setting might be the culprit.

Welcome aboard! 👋

I had a Hook 4x for a short time.  Although @txchaser is correct about auto range being best for most units, in most situations my Hook 4x worked better when manually setting the range.

My boat came with two Lowrance Hook Reveal units and I also had a hard time trying the figure how to configure the settings. Do yourself a favor and go to YouTube.  There you will find dozens of videos that will answer all your questions.   Don't skip this. Do it and you will be a much happier fisherman.

I had the same problem as your issue #1 with the Hook2 4x: the display not showing the whole water column. You just need to use the +/- buttons to zoom out on the image. It took me ages to figure this out. None of the Youtube videos I found mentioned this. I only figured it out after studying a manual I found online that has a passing reference to it.
