Peter E. Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 Well fellow Anglers, I have been itching to buy one of these new Records but as always I like to make sure that I am getting my money's worth. I have read the reviews and they are all good, but I want it from the folks I trust: Ya'll! So gents tell me if you have tried one, if you know someone that has and what you or they thought. Mind you I own shimano, Pflueger, Quantum (never again), and Ambassadeur, so I am i guess you would say being "species specific" here. Alright I appreciate the info. Thanks! \ Peter Quote
Guest DavidGreen Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 Peter, I voted buy..... I am currently finishing up on a custom 6'6" MHF T-rig rod for a client, and the reel it is being built for is a Garcia® Record R40. The reel feels good on the rod, as for casting, the test casting I did was in my opinion better than most of the older Garcia® models that I have built rods for. I did take some time (out of curiosity), to break the reel down and have a good look at the internal works. I found the reel to be made as all of Garcia's round reels are. Built to last and be used as a work horse. Just my .02¢ Tight Lines! Quote
Peter E. Posted November 22, 2006 Author Posted November 22, 2006 Thanks ReelMech, I was hoping to get your attention on this one, I take all my reels down in the winter and I was wondering how complicated is this one? Or would it be best to send it to some one. And also I would like your mailing address, because I don't have very high opinions of the local reel mechs. Thanks again. Quote
Guest DavidGreen Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 Happy Holidays! Peter, If your experienced at taking your reel/s down for servicing at seasons end, then all you would need is the schematic for the reel. It would be in the box. If not let me know I have them. For my info just hit the discount link in my tag line.. Tight Lines!! Quote
Super User cart7t Posted November 23, 2006 Super User Posted November 23, 2006 I've sold a couple of them on Ebay though I never got to use them when I had them. Both RCN-40's were really nice reels. They had a very nice solid feel to them and were as smooth as silk. I'm betting these babies will last a long time with little failures. Go for it. Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted November 23, 2006 Super User Posted November 23, 2006 PETER, AFTER FISHING ONE SEASON WITH MY RECORD RCN-40 ALL I CAN SAY IS BUY TWO OF THEM. YOU WON'T REGRET IT. THEY'RE GREAT REELS. VERY SMOOTH, CAST LIKE A DREAM, AND SMOOTH DRAG. WHAT MORE CAN WE ASK OF OUR REELS? FALCON Quote
Peter E. Posted November 23, 2006 Author Posted November 23, 2006 Thanks fellows ya'll are a great help. I appreciate the info and advice from reelMech. Super User cart7t Posted November 24, 2006 Super User Posted November 24, 2006 I haven't checked what RCN40's are going for new these days but if you keep an eye on Ebay you can pick up a like new, sometimes with box and papers for around $90-100. Quote
Peter E. Posted November 24, 2006 Author Posted November 24, 2006 I was in Woods and Water about a month ago and they offered me a rc60 for $89 but I wanted to get some homework done before I bought it. Quote
Lon Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 as a new poster maybe I shouldn't be so opinionated in my first post. BUT, it is my opinion that there is NO better reel on the market than the garcia products. I have several reels, that were musky fished for over a decade and work flawlessly still. Just clean and lube regularly and I've replaced the pawl on a couple. Now if a reel holds up to that kind of punishment for that long an ambassedeur as a bass reel should last forever. FWIW I have owned several different reels, and these are the only ones that have been completely trouble free. I did have one 4600 c3 that had a sticky brake adjustment knob, that caused some frustration but got er' taken care of. I'm curious how the 4600 C5 with magnetic brake works. I'm thinking I might pick up a couple of those this year for fishing weightless senkos, and for casting lighter cranks in open water into the wind. All my others are either 4600 C4's or C3's. Quote
