Daiwa Aird X Casting Rod 7' Med Hvy

Featured Replies

Has anyone used Daiwa Aird X Casting Rod 7' Med Hvy for throwing toads? im looking for a back up toad since my academy has them on sale. i have the Daiwa Procyon but looking to have a back up rod.

I have used that exact rod and found it to be fine. Decent even. Excellent for the money. If I had to buy a 7' MH/F bass rod for less than $95 MSRP, I would buy the Aird-X for $54.99 and be quite happy with it.

The Procyon rod is nice too, and I like that it has a cork handle. Maybe worth the extra coin if you prefer the cork. I have also tried the Fuego and they are very similar as well.

Appreciate the feed back, i prefer to stay under $100 for my frog/toad rods and other topwater applications. have you had any trouble using a just a EWG for toads casting wise?

My son and I both reach for the H/F for toads and frogs.

EDIT: I like EWG hooks for Zoom Horny Toads.

I have this rod. I don't buy super expensive rods but it definitely compares favorable for rods under $100. I would buy another, especially if on sale. I got it on sale at academy last year when they had the big rod sale event.

I throw ewg on toads. Only issue is sometimes they roll, there are threads about that but you can use a nail weight to help counter that. It's near impossible to get the hook perfectly centered imo. Also if you look up on YouTube bass talk live (btl) day 4 with Frank scalish, there was a good episode last year on toads.

I have the 7' Aird X H, and it was my primary rod for a toad and EWG in heavy cover. I was throwing Stanley 4" Ribbits, Keitech Noisy Flappers, and Zoom Horny Toads. It had no problem casting the Keitech and Zoom, but the Stanley 4" is a lot lighter and I would have to cast it with more line out.

You should have no problems with the MH/F for those presentations and their weights should be right in the wheel house for the MH. The Aird X is also pretty lightweight considering the cost of the rod, I had no problem throwing it hundreds of time in the middle of summer heat.
