Minnesota catch and release

Recommended Posts

Think it was last year where the dnr polled us residents if we thought year round catch and release was what we wanted or something to that extent. Has anyone seen any follow up to that?

My understanding is that the first step was public polling/commentary which did occur about a year ago.  My guess is that its a multi-year process.  If I had to guess I would say by 2026 there might not be a fully closed season anymore.

Thanks for the response… some years I have paid the 50$ or so and go fish Hudson Wisconsin a few times but no more family ties there so doubt I will this year. They only opened year round a few years ago…. Minnesota seems to lag behind Wisconsin laws lol

Definitely behind on these types of outdoor things compared to other states.  Its not your imagination.

I personally think the hold up is to protect the sacred walleyes here and the closed season has nothing to do with bass.

It does seem like a silly law and a silly policy to get it changed.   Living 10 minutes from Iowa does make it easy to fish early season.
