if i were going to remove one of the two treble hooks on my hulapoppers, jitterbugs, etc., which would be best to remove and why? it makes more sense to me to remove the hook closest to the head of the lure, leaving the trailing hook on, but i figured i'd see what the experts say.

Why would you want to do that?  If anything, I would recommend pushing the treble against the body of the bait and cutting off the third hook that hangs down.

Personally, I want as many hooks as possible hanging off there....

Try this on you Jitter bugs. Take the hooks off and put split rings on the hook holders then put the original hook on the front holder and a Scorpion( Like on the Rapala DT's) WOW. The rear hook caused me a lot of problems, because I am known to be somewhat clumsy, kept snagging on boat seat and rope. But hooksets at least doubled, I got this idea from various postings here and now that I am used to it it works!
