Which Expride B for dropshot/ned rigs?

Featured Replies

I know this topic has been beaten to death but as I look through the searches and google I'm still confused as when I started!!!

I've decided on the expride b lineup for my dropshot rod (hoping to through 1/10 neds on it as well).

My question comes in I've read so many different things on which one to get. It's between the 6'10" ML and the 7'2" ML.

Does anyone have any experience with these and which one would you pick? (I'll be fishing out of a kayak btw and trying to stay around 6 rods total so looking for rods to do multiple things)

I am not opposed if there is something better in that price range, but would have to sell me on it at this point.

I dont have the 7'2 ML but I have the 6'10" ML and 7' L+.

I prefer the 6'10" ML of the two I have. It's better balanced and for some reason I dont feel that it's as stiff as the 7' L+. It seems that the tip is a little softer on the 6'10" ML.

if your gonna just dropshot with an open hok the 610 is fine. If your gonna texas rig at all the 72 is better. it has a soft tip but stiffens very quickly after about the 4th guide.

I have both.

If it's mainly for dropshotting, I would go with the 6' 10''.

I'll be nose hooking and texas rigging. I will also be using this as a ned rig rod as well as I'll be in a kayak and need the rods to do multiple jobs as I only really have room for 6 rods.

Would the 7'2 be better then if I'm going to be ned rigging as well of this same rod?

''As well'' is not clear enough.  If you are going to use it for dropshotting more than ned rigging go with the shorter rod which is the one I use for dropshotting.  I use the 7' 2'' for small swimbaits on a round head.  I use a 7' 6'' Curado rod for Ned rigging.

I’ve got the 6-10 ml for neds and I absolutely love it. I haven’t fished the 7-2 to compare though.

I have the Expride (A) 7' L+ (the only Expride I own).Great rod for medium to smaller Neds and similar baits as it is definitely not a light action and IMHO is closer to a ML. Great little rod that I use for a variety of lighter spinning appropriate (the lighter side of finesse) presentations since I have two ML (one F and one XF), one M-/F and two M/F spinning rods for my 'higher power' finesse needs. They're all just a little different from each other, but have some overlap.

For medium to heavier Neds (still finesse IMHO), I use a Zodias 7' ML/F or a Phenix Feather 7'1' M/F casting rod.

Oddly enough, I use 0.15 mm (what I am trying not to call "10 lbs") chartreuse J-Braid on all of 'em with various 6-8 lbs leader material.

the 72 would probably work for neds . it has a soft tip but it does get pretty stout. for noes hooking and light neds you may be happier with the 610
