Frog rod for youngster

Featured Replies

My 13 year old wants to try frog fishing. Looking for an inexpensive spinning rod rig which is what he is accustomed to using. Would a 6' berkley lightning rod LRS601MH (8-17lb line rating/ 1/4-1 oz lure rating) in MH with 30lb suffix braid on a good spinning reel with stanley ribbits or spro frogs work for him? I have held the lightning rod in a store and it seems very stiff. Thanks.

I would reccomend the 7' rod, and Spro Bronzeye Frogs

the MH Lightning Rod would work great. i have the 7ft MH, i use it for jigs, frogs, and pike with 30lb Power Pro. hope it works for you.

Pflueger has a 7'6" Trion Flippin' Stick that collapses down towards

the handle. I have used these for Frog fishing on many occasions and

I have never had one break. I also use these rods when I go catfishing

with my father inlaw (fun fishing) and they work well for that too.

These rods are very inexpensive and the quality is really good for the price.

(I think they are in the $30-$50 range if I remember correctly)

Here is a picture of part of the rods. It almost looks like the top one is the

Flippin' stick that I was talking about (it is hard to tell in the picture though).

Welcome To The Forum!

Tackle_Box,

If your bank bound and don't have to worry about overhanging branches, I would go with a little longer rod 6'6" - 7' MHF. If you are fishing areas with overhanging branches then the rod you are looking at will serve him well. If your fishing from a boat I would go with a 6'6" to 7' rod.

Tight Lines!!

I use a 7ft. heavy action falcon flippin stick...

With 30lb power pro braid..

I actually had a break off too.. I couldnt believe it.  :)
