My mother gave me a bunch of old fishing equipment that my grandfather used to use before he died 4 years ago. A few nice pieces, a few not so nice and the topic here. I found a 5 foot pistol grip fiberglass/graphite abu garcia heavy action rod. The tip was broken so I cut it down a hair and glued another one on. Now this thing is a broomstick! I put an old ambassadeur c5000 reel on it and then some 50lb spiderwire braid on a stren 12lb leader. With the right jig I feel like this could be a pretty good rig for heavy cover jig fishing.

I know the norm now is for 8ft heavy action rods, but I really wanted to incorporate a little bit of grandad into my fishing.

Do ya'll think this thing will do for short cast/heavy cover bassin'?

A little mini heavy-cover spinnerbait rod sounds about right to me...and grandpa would be proud  8-)
