$50 wal-mart gift card burning a hole in my pocket
I've heard the rumor that wal-mart is getting out of the fishing business, but i find it hard to believe with their huge involvement with FLW. Maybe there's some truth to it though since they are going clearance crazy. I don't really need anything I don't guess. I don't have a ton of stuff like a lot of the guys here, I guess I was wondering what somebody would buy with that. I'm a big picture guy too so I'm thinking rod/reel combos or the like instead of a bunch of small stuff

diawa steez rod and reel combos
$800/combo _____________ = 26 Berkley Lightnin' Rods!!! $30 I'm not gonna get into the whole LR series are crap since they're not GLoomis or St. Croix. Can't get either one of those at wal-mart, and you dang sure can't get one without the wife noticing! Least not in my house! I'd love to have a steez or gl, or st. croix, but as seldom as I get to fish with work and law school, I like knowing that I can go to wally world and pick up a quality rod and reel for that matter and not have to bat an eye! But yes I would degrade myself for a steez setup!

Berkley Lightnin' Rods at Wal-Mart
I bought a 7' MH with fast action at wal-mart a while back for $28. Are these the ones that everybody on a budget likes so much or are there some other LRs in the BPS catalog that are way better? I know sometimes Wal-Mart and CO. get the lowest end of a particular brand's rod.

ngc lures..walking worm, bite lite , kick tail..?
I've got a pack of walking worms somewhere from Gallion's sports. They look good and I think i've caught a couple on em. They bend like a real worm, but you have to fish em faster than I like to unravel em again.

What do you consider a large Crappie
I've caught a couple 15" crappie in my day off our pier on Weiss Lake, AL supposedly known as the crappie capitol of the world. My brother caught one on a bass plug that would go 17" but he forgot to bring the stupid fish basket back into the boat before he left the hole so he had a nice basket of water when he got back to the dock! For about 5 years the lake was really poor in crappie as a lot of unscrupulous fisherman would come into town and fish with 15 or so rods off the boat in a creek. They looked like shrimp boats! They'd catch 2 to 3 times the limit and measure nothing, and would be out of town before the marine police ever knew they were there. Forgive me if I sound cynical to out of towners, You guys from Kentucky, Ill, and Ohio keep the lake businesses in business! But there are some folks out there who don't care what the law is, they just want to catch a ton of crappie, and to them the give the finger! It got so bad that about 4 years ago a group of concerned citizens got together a raised money to dump about 100,000 crappie into the lake every year for about 3 years. 300,000 total Last year was the first season where the 3 year old (the first batch) were eating size. We caught a limit of 12 inch crappie. Im hoping that this year will be even better as those crappie will now be 4 or 5 years old and the numbers should really be up. Hopefully weiss will be back on the map again!

Fly rod w/spinning reel for crappie?
I know this isn't the ultimate crappie forum but...I was in my carport looking at my unused fishing junk when I happened across a shakespeare UL spinning reel and my wal-mart black beauty 9 ft fly rod. I rigged the two together and it seems ok, granted I didn't put the other half of the rod on there. Has anybody ever used a setup like this for crappie? I fish for em off a pier over my pvc trees and the farthest one away is 20 yards in 6ft of water. Will this thing work ok for fishing jigs in that cover. Snags are out of the question if you know about pvc trees. what do you guys think?

Outdoor Contours.com? Anybody ever use these guys?
I was cruising the net the other day looking for waypoints of alabama lakes for my gps when I stumbled on this website. Apparently you take your gps/sounder combo unit (if you can afford one!) and troll an area you're interested in and then email them the data and whether or not you want it made public. Then they take it and make a 3d fishing map in a bunch of different formats and send it back to you. They've got a bunch of alabama lakes on there that you can buy cds for for like 20 bucks. It looks legit, and pretty sweet. I'm just curious if ya'll know about these guys or have ever used their products? I'm trying to get all the info I can about alabama's lakes. http://www.outdoorcontours.com/

What was your best fishing deal?
What's the best deal that you partook of regarding fishing? Mine arrived today. I bought 20 assorted bags of Gene Larew, Zoom, Strike King, Strike King 3x, and Snapback soft plastics from a guy on ebay for $30 bucks all told. Great bunch of baits with only 1 or 2 oddballs i might give away. I did the math and assuming each bag cost $3.50 each which I think is on the low end it would have easily cost over $75. What do you think?

Strike King 3x Baits
Have you triede Owner hooks? Haven't tried the Owners with them because I'm stuck on the VMC hooks since they have a deep bend between the eye and the hook shank instead of the straight-to-shank design like 90% of the hooks out there, but I'll pick up a bag of them and see how they work. From your experience with these lures, what size do you use for most of the lizards and worms that 3x has? Aba- 3/0 or 4/0 Also, 2 ways to keep the bait from sliding down, toothpick through the bait, eye and out the other side, trim toothpick and of course, super glue at the tip. The pickerel bite here is crazy in the spring, we use the flukes (zero's?) w/ a toothpick and 1 bait can hold up to numerous pickerel. Also, The 3X craw trailer is the only one I use. Thanks Hooker, I'll definitely give the toothpick through the bait & eye a try. Sounds like a way to get rid of some of my 3x bags and my frustrations. If they're driving you that crazy: 801 Forrest Avenue Ste 102 Gadsden, AL 35901 You know...for your sanity?? :-?
