Jerkbaitin with Floro

Featured Replies

I went fishing today (well actually just practicing accuracy and techniques for the season), and I tried using a jerkbait with florocarbon. I usually use mono pretty much for everything, but now I am a firm believer in floro for jerks. I also use floro for flippin. Does anyone else prefer floro over mono for jerkbaitin? If not, what are the reasons you don't? I know you have to be more careful on hooksets.

I use floro for every thing except heavy cover situations with jigs then I stick with super braids. I read somewhere that alot of pros prefer mono for crankbaiting wood the stretch in the mono helps when banging of brush they say no personal experience here though.

I use fluro all the time for jerk bait. I like how it dosn't stretch.

Fluorocarbon is very sensitive bacause of the lack of streach.  This is a pro of using fluorocarbon with a jeckbait.  The other pro is that it is near invisable.  The con is that fluorocarbon sinks and may affect the suspending action of the bait on long pauses.  The other option is using a braid with a small fluorocarbon leader.  I dislike extra knots and tying them aswell.  I'm also going to use fluorocarbon for jerkbaits this year.  The key is what you like and what works for you.

Too many advantages for not using fluorocarbon for jerkbaits.  Something to think about on suspending baits.  Do we really think a bait needs to be absolutely still (suspend) for a fish to hit it???  I don't know about you guys but until we get a bass to talk we are throwin darts.  Just my .02

Copolymer is my line to go with jerks but I use fluoro in those occasions that I want the lure running deeper.

KVD use fluoro exclusively with them.

Which flouro line do you guys find supple enough for casting?

I use P-line Fluoro with the new Halo already loaded in my 2nd set for a trial, in deeper water this line will let you run even deeper since is the heaviest fluoro in the market.

when you guys say jerk baits, do you mean hard, soft, or both?

Lubina,  where did you get your facts on heaviest fluoro on the market?

Thanks

P-line web site Mike.

I tested  in waters in 45 degrees temp. and Halo 12 lbs obviously sunk faster than P-line Fluoro and Vanish, those were the ones I have available at the time.

Lubina,  My only concern in using Halo P Line is why would anyone want to use a colored fluorocarbon?  One of the primary reasons to use fluorocarbon to begin with is it's ability to conceal itself due to fluorocarbon having ALMOST the same refractive index as water???  I have a buddy that has Halo in his tackle store.  He told me he hated it as it was stiffer than bailing wire.  His words tho as I haven't tried it as of yet.  But that is an interesting claim on having more specific gravity ie sinks faster...
