Do neoprene rod sleeves ultimately absorb and trap moisture more than traditional mesh ones, and do you find them more difficult to take on and off?

I am looking at the Evolv tournament grade sleeves to better protect my guides but hesitant to pull the trigger as traditionally I’ve known neoprene to absorb water and be fairly slow to dry. This is a concern as I often leave my rods in a sealed storage tube between trips.

I also remember handling my friend’s and they seemed a little less slick for sliding on and removing, like they got stuck often.

Wondering if the added benefit of the plastic molded tip inserts and protection afforded by neoprene is worth these potential drawbacks? They are unfortunately not cheap enough to just give them a shot blindly.

I bought some Liv2Fish ones and like them a lot more than the mesh ones. Yes, they are tricky at time to get on easily (not bad in reality) but I like them more for a few reasons:

- float

- reel strap

- roll up and velcro rather than snake everywhere

- don't hang up on rod guides at all in rod tubes (occasionally I would have this happen with mesh)

- no stuck hooks or guides popping through

- more rod tip protection

- heavy enough not to fly off rod going down the road/lake

The ones from www.rodprotech.com and I assume others will get damp.  But they float and have a built in lure wrap that makes sliding on and off easy.  I love mine.

“Snake everywhere” great wording lol, can’t count the number of times they’ve slithered off my kayak into the drink.

I have the rod glove and 6th sense neoprene sleeves and like them a lot. The have held up and protect the rods well, especially when they are in a rod locker. They can get wet but seem to dry out on their own in no time.

I switched all of mine to Rod Warriors neoprene. They dry pretty quickly. But what I like the most is that Pete custom screen prints the technique at the bottom of each one. No more guessing.

Do they use a special type of neoprene?

I am not sure, to be honest. I just know it's a special fabric over 2mm neoprene.
