Garmin Echomap to hummingbird Terrova universal sonar- split screen issue

Featured Replies

Hello All,

Hoping someone here can help me out.  I have 3 garmin units (1 up front, 2 back).  The front unit is hooked up to the universal sonar on my hummingbird terova.  The back units are hooked up to a the rear garmin transducer.  I would like to use split screen up front so I can see the depth and the fishing map but the map takes forever to load or doesn't load at all.  I can run the fishing map or sonar solo and they work just fine.  Is this a compatibility issue or am I missing something in the settings?

Thanks

Aaron

I'm not a Garmin user but I am a retired software developer so I've spent much of my life debugging issues like this so I'll offer some thoughts.

My first guess is that the processor in your unit is having a hard time keeping up when it has to both process the sonar returns and load the map.  It prioritizes the sonar so the map load lags behind.

I assume you can change the orientation of the map.  If so set it to "North Up" so the unit does not have to adjust the orientation of the map while loading it.  If this helps then my theory is probably correct.  Does the map perform normally once it loads?

Try running a split screen on one of the console units to see if you have the same problem.  If not and the units are the same models or similar then I would have less confidence in my theory that the processor is overloaded.

Thanks for the reply.  No issues running split screen on the console units.  Map works fine if/when it actually loads.  Zooming in or out will make the process start all over again, and often times won't load at all after.  I will try changing to north up and see if it loads.
