I was looking at purchasing either the 7ft Daiwa Tatula XT medium heavy spinning rod or the 7ft 1 inch St Croix Black Bass medium heavy spinning rod. I would primarily use this rod as an all purpose rod.  I would throw Texas rigs, chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, flukes, swimbaits, smaller jigs, etc. Does anyone have any experience with both of these rods or opinions?

I just picked up the 7' Tatula XT spinning rod in medium power for mainly plastics. It's a nice rod, lots of backbone with a fast action, very comfortable to hold, good sensitivity. 

 

 

With the sale going on right now and the techniques you mentioned I'd pick up a 7'1" H F Dobyns Kaden on Tackle Warehouse over either of these...about another $20 more and it looks like they would be drop shipping it at this point but it would come with a better warranty and although I haven't tried either of these I'm willing to bet it's better than both of them.

If possible, I would handle all the rods you are contemplating and put a reel on them to check balance.  My bias probably comes through, but I have found St. Croix MH and Heavy rods to be quite tip heavy. 

I actually ended up buying the 7ft Cashion Icon medium heavy spinning rod! It's super light! I haven't tested it on the water yet but it has a lot of good reviews online.
