What would/could you use this Curado for??

Featured Replies

This morning I traded a prop for some cash and a shimano Curado.  Told the guy if he wanted to trade something in reels it would have to be a Shimano, and he said he had several.  I met with his father in law this morning whom he had sent the reel and money to.  The reel turned out to be a Curado 200B38 model.  This reel is absolutely LIKE NEW!!  Not even any boat rash on it and smooth as butter.

Trouble is, I don't really LIKE a 3.8 retrieve reel.  If I did a lot of deep cranking (don't do much of that), or running deep spinnerbaits (don't do much of that, either), it would be fine.  Question is:  What other use is it good for?  Guy at the tackle shop suggested putting it on my jig rod :-?

If I can't come up with something I can use it for, look for it in the For Sale/Trade section of the forums.

jdw174,

IMPO Crankbaits...

The GR and IPC is a little slow for jigs need a good 5.8:1 - 6.2:1.

You want to turn their heads a little quicker when jig fishing.

I picked up the same reel on clearence last year. Great reel but just to slow for my taste. One option that was suggested to me was to have new (faster) gears put in. The tackle shop that I shop at would do it for $25.00. You might want to pm (reel mech) on this forum and get his advice, he is respected by many fishermen that use this forum

You can use it for deep cranking or slow rolling, you don 't like the ratio you can have it tricked for a higher ratio, the good thing with the Curado 200 model is that the parts of one are compatible with the other 2, it 's just a matter of changing the gears.

You need the main gear, pinion gear, and pinion gear yoke, and drag pads (they are different sizes), I would recommend a drag change to Carbontex or X-Smooothies.

Gears.....schmears.......the reel is on it's way to ReelMech as of yesterday.  It was so pristine I couldn't see getting rid of it, and the cost of converting it to the standard "B" model was almost negligible.  Don't know why I didn't think of that in the first place :)

Jim,

Ordered up some 6.2:1 and 5.1:1 gear sets, already for you and anyone else that wants to up the GR of the CU200B38 or CU200B5.
