Browning Fishing Midas Boron Baitcast Rods

Featured Replies

I currently have the following baitcasting rods:

Cabelas TXS II - for T-rig plastic worms

Cabelas TXS II - for drop shot

Fenwick HMG GT 66M - for medium crankbaits

Shimano Compre CPC-X66MH - for deep-diving crankbaits

All the above are 6'6" and are on the 100-130 USD price range.

I am thinking of replacing one rod with a Browning Fishing Midas Boron Baitcast rod. Does anyone have any experience with this rod? What features do you like mostly in this rod? Is it worth replacing the rods I currently have? If yes, which rod would you suggest I replace it with?

I mostly fish in deep (15-30 feet), stained, open waters for Largemouth Bass.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

I was looking at this rod at Bass Pro and what a sweet little rod. It was real lite and I would think it would be a great rod. I never fished one but just my two cents worth. I came real  close to buying it, but I needed two other rods, maybe next year! :)

I don't have any experience with that rod.  I did however buy two of the Bass Pro Boron Rods when they were the hot item to have in the 70's (or was it the 80's).  I didn't like like the feel of the rods and they seemed to be a bit more dead compared to the Graphite rods.  I really had high expectations for the boron rods and paid top dollar for them.  I sold both for a big loss and bought four matcing graphite rods (the brand new 5' 6" Berkley pistol grip lighting rods)....hehe.

Hope you hear from someone that uses the rod you're interested in.

Cheers

Am not familar with that rod but wanted to add my 2 cents about boron. I know my memories of the rod are colored by the fact that I had always used 'glass or some composit before it. The rod was a 5'6" M Diawa ProCaster. This was "82 and the tech. was still new (maybe, just to me). I thought it was the best thing since someone came up with the idea of doorknobs. The sensitivity was amazing and it wasn't as stiff as graphite. I still roll my wrist under with pistol grips to get under low overhangs and because I'm not trying for the distance that a lot of you have to have. You didn't have to roll the boron, you could  actually work it with your wrist (that's probably clear as mud).

We 've got a Boxer that was real destructive when he was a puppy. He ate my rod all the way to the handle :'(! Egg sucking, biscuit burning hound. I am usually a pretty forgiving person ::), but I still carry a grudge over that >:)...

Just a side note.  I had about 2 hours to kill in our local Bass Pro Shop..so I spet all that time looking at and comparing rods.  The Browning Midas looks like one heck of a rod for the money.  I compared it the Shimano Crucial (Which I own) and have to say, that the Browing is more than a match for the Crucial for the same money.  The Guides used on the Midas are far and away much better than the guides on the Shimano and I think the detail work on the Browning is superior to the Shimano also.  I've fished my Crucial and am very pleased with it's performance.  The crucial is light and sensitive with a great warranty.  After comparing the two (Shimano Crucial and Browning Midas) in the store, I have no reason to think the Midas will perform worse than the Crucial.  I'd say go for it.....for the money it looks like a very nice rod with materialsl found on more expensive brands.

I also like what I saw in the Bass Pro brand "Prolite Finese" rods.  Superior Guides and nice appointments on the rod for $99.99.  The rod appears to be a bargain when you consider the construction and materials.

Just my $.02 worth.
