  1. Anybody who has used this reel before? Would be nice to hear some reviews. Have not found any in fishing shops. I only still see the 6.4:1 in the market (not the 7:1).
  2. Sorry for being so ignorant, but what is a shakey head?
  3. They still don't have the high-speed Premier. The 7.0:1 gear ratio. :'(
  4. What do you suggest for a lake that usually has big waves? The lake I fish in has 3-5 foot waves. But would also like to bring my family boating whenever I am not fishing.
  5. Very interesting system indeed. Where can you buy these parasite weights?
  6. I finally got the chance to use the P-Line Halo last week. I spooled it in my Viento and used it for dropshotting. Boated at least 5 keepers with it and was quite impressed with its strength and minimal stretch. Has anyone else tried this line? Kindly post your reviews. I have only used it once so I am not able to comment more than the above observations. For the meantime it will definitely stay spooled in my Viento. My other three baitcast reels have the Yozuri Hybrid Ultra Soft spooled in them. Those will also stay as I am also satisfied with the YHUS performance in my other applications (T-rig, Deep cranks and medium cranks).
  7. I've tried this hook a few years ago and I lose a lot of fish because the hook was not sharp enough. I don't know if they have improved through the years. If they did I would like to try it again because it really does help in hook positioning. Currently I use Gamakatsu circle hooks for dropshotting and I have no problems with it. The hook points are very sharp.
  8. Can you tell me where to get them? I searched Cabelas and they only have Premier at 6.4:1. Thanks.
  9. Thanks for the sound advice. You have got me thinking there. I fish more than 30 feet deep in open water using Yozuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #12. I will use this combo for Texas rig only so I need a high-speed reel (but the lightest I can buy) to take in slack quickly and a super-sensitive rod to detect subtle bites in more than 30 feet of water.
  10. I have both 100D and 200DPV. The weight difference is more because of the size of the different models. The 100D (one less bearing than the 200Ds) is lighter because of relative size to the 200Ds. The one bearing difference is not that noticeable but the weight and size difference are obvious. So it depends on your intended use if you need to decide on the different models. I only bought the 200DPV (5:1 gear ratio) for the sole use of my deep-diving crankbaits. So if you will use it for general applications, it would be better to get the 100D. Both reels are superb reels by the way. Hope this helps.
  11. I need some suggestions on rod selection. I don't have tackle shops near my place so please don't tell me to try them out first before I buy them. The only time I get to try them is after they deliver it to my doorstep. ;D From researches and suggestions from this forum regarding reel selection, I am inclined to either get a Shimano Core 100MGFV or an Abu Garcia Premier. What rod do you suggest I pair it with? I have narrowed down my choices to three rods. All of which are in the same price range and similar length. 1) Fenwick avc70MF - $209.95 2) Kistler helium LTA He70mhc - $229.95 3) G. loomis IMX MBR843C - $245.00 Most important to me would be the rod's sensitivity since I will use this combo solely for fishing deep waters (more than 30 feet) with a Texas rig. Can you help me? Thanks in advance.
  12. Only the Core 100MG is available in Cabelas. Where do you get the 100MGFV? Anyone who has used the MGFV already? Kindly post your reviews. It will be interesting to read. Thanks.
  13. I still don't have experience with Pflueger reels. So far, I have the Curado, Viento and Revo. The specs you mentioned on the Summit is very interesting. Can you compare it with other reels so that I may have an idea (if possible against the Curado, Viento or Revo). Sorry but I don't have any tackle stores near my place to try them out, so I rely heavily on this forum's recommendations (plus researches on the net).
  14. Great! Thanks. Do you know the price for the Core 100MGFV?
  15. What are the top 3 lightest high-speed (at least 7:1 ratio) low profile baitcast reel in the market today?
  16. I have all three. IMO, I can rate them as follows: Easy Casting: Curado > Revo > Viento Drag system: Revo > Curado > Viento Durability: Revo > Curado > Viento Lightness: Curado > Viento > Revo Value for money: Revo > Curado > Viento
  17. Try P-line Halo. It performed very well for me. I just tried it last Sunday. Sensitivity and strength is above par. I also like the Yozuri Hybrid Ultra Soft. It handles better than the halo but will give up points on sensitivity as compared to the halo.
  18. That's a good one. You made my day!!!! :) ;D
  19. I bought mine last October. It was my first baitcast reel and I was impressed with it.............until I bought myself a Curado and a Revo. The Curado and the Revo can cast a lot further than the Viento. So, it really depends on what you are going to use it for. For me, I now use the Viento for my drop-shotting (minimal casting needed) and I'm satisfied with it, specially that I can use the twitchin bar for the subtle presentations. If you will use it for T-rig or crankbaits (where you do a lot of casting), I think you will be disappointed (if you have other baitcast reels like the Curado or Revo).
  20. Can't be beat for value for money. My only issue is the weight. All the rest are thumbs up.
  21. the reason i asked for advice is because on the BPS site, it says you can get a Revo-S for $99. when i get to bass pro shop, they are asking $130, and that is too much for me. yes my reel might be $80 and my rod is 20, but it does the same thing a lot more expensive reel/rod combo does, and it helps me catch fish. why are you discriminating against me for buying an $80 reel and a $20 rod? i don't need that comment. The reason RW said this is that most of us here will agree that given the choice, the rod is the more important of the two. The Ugly Stick will last you forever, but 'm not sure that is a good thing In my experience, a good hookset is difficult and that's only a concern if you feel the bite, which isn't likely because of their almost total lack of sensitivity. We are not trying to offend, only educate. Welcome to the board. Like Cephkiller said, they are not trying to offend, only educate. Hope you keep posting. You will get lots of good suggestions and a ton of useful information from these guys (I know I did). Welcome to the forum.
  22. Thank you all for a very informative thread. I will keep in mind all your suggestions. Thanks again!!!!
  23. Thanks guys!!! Really appreciated it.
