  1. Kinda new here. I don't know if this is the right section to post this question. I tried to log-in last Wednesday and I was told that I was banned from this forum and could not use this facility anymore. :-[ :'( I tried to recall what I have written that might have offended someone or gotten the ire of the moderators but I have no recollection of ever even being in the border of what is not allowed in this site. I was disappointed for the moment because I love this forum and have learned a lot and enjoy it so much. However, when I tried logging-in today, to my surprise, I could. Was there a glitch on the website? Did a moderator ban me by mistake and corrected it afterwards? Or am I still banned but a moderator reinstated me by mistake?
  2. P-line Halo for pure flouro or Yozuri Hybrid for copolymers. Stay away from Vanish.
  3. I tried one pack last year but returned to using my trusted gamakatsus this year. They look and feel sharp and strong but it just doesn't match up to the sharpness of the gamakatsus. Anyway, it won't hurt trying it yourself because it might be the right hook design for your type of hooksetting, fishing style, etc.
  4. It will be hard to answer this because both companies have many baitcast reel models/brands (from low-end, mid-range up to high end models) and I doubt if any of us have used and fished all of them. If we are to narrow it down to certain models and compare them, then some of us might have first hand experience in using these models. I have baitcast reels from both companies in the $200 price range (both 2006 models, low profile) and if I were to compare these two, I will say that the shimano has plus points in the following: 1) easier and longer casts - probably because of the magnumlite spool 2) less backlash (in my experience) - probably because of the VBS, although the higher-end Daiwas might have an advantage over their shimano counterparts in this category because of the new Mag-Z brake system 3) smoother drag - dartainium drag 4) lighter (non-MG models) The Daiwa will have plus points in the following: 1) versatility on adjusting brake system - external knob 2) more precise micro-click adjustments on drag system As I said, if you go up or down the different price ranges, you will have different plus points on both companies. How about comparing the models in the $400 price range? Say, a Calais versus a Steez (although one is Mg). Anyone? I don't have both so can't comment :'(. Or probably some other models which are worth comparing. The most accurate answer to your original question could probably come from reelmech as he has probably serviced most models (in a variety of price ranges) of both companies. JMHO.
  5. What is the most sensitive MH baitcast rod under $200 you have used or owned?
  6. Do you think it's because the STX has 4 extra BBs than the zillion? Or is it because of something else?
  7. Hi!

Welcome to the forums. You will enjoy it. side question: why is roadwarrior's footnote indicate 'ex-member'???
  8. Kindly indicate why you choose Zillion over STX-HS or vice versa. Thanks a lot for your replies. It will help a lot .
  9. Was shopping around for a hi-speed BC reel and decided on the Zillion. After looking at the specs of the Revo STX-HS, I am having some second thoughts. Can you help me guys? TD Zillion - 7.1:1 gear ratio - 6+1 BB - 150/12 yards/lbs line capacity - 8.8 ounces - $249.95 REVO STX-HS - 7.1:1 gear ratio - 10+1 BB - 140/12 yards/lbs line capacity - 8.75 ounces - $199.99
  10. Cabelas TXS II baitcast rod Daiwa Viento Main line: Yozuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #10 (but P-line Halo 12 lbs. will be tried this year) 1/0 gamakatsu octopus hooks 5/8 ounce lead sinkers Line below hook to sinker: Suffix 3 lbs mono. To break-off when sinker hangs-up.
  11. Yozuri Hybrid Ultra Soft. But I am trying out Tectan, P-line Halo and probably Gamma coplymer this year. I have read many good things about Gamma so I am really curious. 8-) Seems to be more expensive though than the YH Ultra Soft.
  12. A few of my fishing buddies has the TD fuego bc reals but they have problems with the drag system. They say the drag chatters once the reel gets wet or have been used for a while. But inspite of their complaints, I still see them use it quite often. ;D Anyway, I don't know if the reels they got were just a bad batch (if you could say that in reels ), but their experience made me decide to get the Viento instead of the Fuego.
  13. In what category is the zoom mag II? Do you need wide gap for it or just the round bend? How about the senkos? Kut-tails? Thanks.
  14. What are the advantages of using a wide gap worm hook? What are the advantages of using a round bend worm hook?
  15. Found a previous thread that should be able to give you more info on the Halo. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1171815485
  16. For low memory and low backlash tendancy, mono will outperform the flouros (haven't used braid so I don't know in comparison with braid). However, if you include strength, abrasion resistance and low stretch to your parameters, hybrid would fit the bill.
  17. Lately, I have been using the twitching bar more often in my dropshot presentations. The more I use it, the more I like it. Seems that it has more use than I originally thought. ;D
  18. I ordered one and it should arrive soon. I will post my review as soon as I can try them on my dropshot rig. However, like smoker, it would be nice to hear from other anglers who have actually tried fishing with the halo.
  19. I agree that you fight the fish with your rod and not with your reel, but for cranking deep-diving crankbaits, you can feel the big difference in power of the lower gear ratios.
  20. A fishing friend gave me some Tectan Premium Plus Mono to try for my deep-diving crankbait set-up. I have broken-off lots of other lines (Berkley Big Game, Spiderline Mono, Daiwa Supreme, etc.) with my deep-diving crankbaits except for my trusted Yo-zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft. I tried the Tectan because of the small diameter (0.28 mm for 15.8 lb test) which I need for my deep-divers. It performed quite well by landing a couple of 2+ pounders and lots of 1+ pounders. However, this was just one day fishing and I was wondering if others who have used this line have any comments on its performance in the long run. note: I still use the Yo-zuri for my t-rig, drop-shot and light crankbait set-ups. I find that they are really superior in strength.
  21. I bought the Revo S precisely because of the centrifugal brake. This is becasue I found my Curado (centrifugal brake) casts much better than my Viento (magnetic brake). Maybe I was wrong in comparing the two and thinking it was the brake system (the Curado and Viento have more differences than just the brake system) that makes the Curado cast lighter lures much farther and backlash less. Anyway, I have the S and it still casts better than my Viento; and for half the price.
  22. Like Roadwarrior (and several others in this forum), I like Yo-zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft and have it on 3 out of my 4 BC reels. I tried the Tectan Premium Plus mono last weekend (for my deep-diving crankbait set-up) and it seems to be a good line also, although I should fish it several times more for an accurate evaluation.
