  1. I've been throwing Old School Balsa Baits thin spin this season. It has split rings and decent hooks. Overall, a higher build quality than the 2 you've mentioned.
  2. There's 2 things magic about a spinnerbait, reaction strikes and reaction strikes. 1st reaction strike is this crazy flashy thing flying by so fast they just eat first ask questions later. The 2nd is popping this thing through grass and off cover. It comes flying in and out of the stuff they just eat it. My favorite is pop it out of grass and just let it sink.
  3. I trailer my pa 14 harbor freight utility trailer. The thing is so heavy I wouldnt want to go fishing if I had to put it in the truck bed every time. Plus my local spots all have very good ramps.
  4. It's like someone messed up tying a San Diego Jam and named it pitzen. I'll try it as I tie a sdj often.
  5. I take 6 or 7 out on the kayak, but want to take less... 1 spinning 1 795 small swimbait 1 705 Frog/junk 3 MH, 1 CB/bladed jig, 1 7' MHXF, 1 7'6" MH MF light pitching, big worm/creature 1 M, 6'6 topwater/jerkbait
  6. Haha might end up swimming pretty quick!
  7. @casts_by_fly I would stay under 150. Been looking at the dobyns fury 663 and 664. Both have a fast tip and don't think I want that here. I stand when it isn't windy, but it blows 10mph every day here right now. If I could stand all the time if stay with a longer rod here. This is true. Fishing out of a kayak had it's own challenges. If anything, I'm early on frog bites so needing an extra split second needed to reel down helps.
  8. What do you mean? @Tatulatard I have a 7H frog rod now and I just can't walk a frog from a yak like I can a boat. @casts_by_fly my normal lakes don't have super heavy mats, I could probably get away with mh. Maybe a little softer in the tip for buzzbaits and swim jigs too.
  9. Walking the frog with a 7' frog rod is tough for me in a kayak. So I've been thinking about moving my frog rod over to heavy cover t rigs, jigs, and as a follow up on missed blow ups. So I'm looking for a 6'6"ish frog/heavy top water rod. Could I get away with a MH? There is a lot in that class in that size that's affordable, but not as many H. Thank you.
  10. I use a 6'6" st croix avid MF. I overload it a bit with 130mm pencil poppers. I till manage to get the hooks in using 12lb mono but d**n it's spongy.
  11. Im from up that way! I used to fish frogs and big worms almost every evening on Round Lake. Its small, stained, and I'm not sure how much fishing pressure it gets but there used to be some amazing fish in there. It's great to read about some action up that way.
  12. I'd throw a rat, prop bait, popper And Colorado blade black spinner bait
  13. I picked up a 7' MH Okuma EVX cranking rod and have been absolutely loving it. It easily feels the wobble and has good action. I'm guessing the japanese sticks are a little lighter than their american counterparts because my other MH rods are a bit more beefier. It wouldnt be great for bombing big, deep cranks, but for what you're after it's worth a serious look.
  14. How do you even rig and fish those things? They are a bait I want to work so well, but I'm obviously not doing it right.
  15. What kind of situations and retrieved do you like on them?
