Upper Potomac smallmouth fishing

I’ve been trying to diversify the species that I fish for and have mostly only fished for largemouth in ponds near me. I recently attempted to fish near Harper’s ferry but failed miserably. I tried several baits, techniques, and tried a few spots but I came away with not a single fish. I think it would be best if I went with someone who was knowledgeable on the area and the techniques, but guide services are expensive. Does anybody know of any fishing clubs that would welcome a newbie who doesn’t have a boat or kayak? Or is anyone looking to show a newbie around for a day so I can learn how to fish for some smallmouth
