Straight Daiwa Sol Handle Upgrade.

Featured Replies

Any suggestions for upgrading older Daiwa Sol straight handles with the riveted knobs?

I have a couple older LH TD Sols that I love, but the riveted handle knobs are sloppy loose and click while reeling. Can't shim them since they are riveted.

Interested in some options if you have any!!

@FrnkNsteen Lov my TD Sol! I use a handle I bought on Amazon. The brand is

Lixada. 100mm, carbon fiber. For me, its great.

$20-$25. Comes with everything needed to attach.20250905_141717.jpg.5c2a24b4c82f7d4e5115a72d3b3bdeef.jpg

You can use a modern swept handle but you will need to bend the drag star points or switch to a swept point threaded Daiwa drag star.  I don't think the ones with the nut and spring will work.  Also, to accommodate a newer drag star you will need a spool tension cap with a tapered edge because the modern Daiwa stars have a larger diameter to accommodatea clicker and this will interfere with the stock spool tension knob.

Pictured below are various Sols from another forum

Two with a swept drag star and with or without a clicking star and tapered spool tension knob (note the larger diameter of the star base to accommodate the clicker and how that eats into the spool tension knob on the top reel).

Stock spool tension cap with bent stock drag star.

Stock spool tension knob, drag star and a straight ZPI carbon handle (you can gear cheap Ray's Studio ones too)

Sols are just Alphas.  Daiwa never calls the Alphas an Alphas when they bring it to the states.  They called it Sol and later the Alphas SV was the SV105.  Here is an Alphas SV with some color parts.  The 15 Alphas SV and Alphas CT 70 is the reel you want to match parts to.

An Alphas CT 70 spool tension knob and a gear set from the CT 70 or SV would be a must for me.  Those gears are butter compared to the earlier Alphas gears.

Are Alphas handles and drag stars still available?

I've got some parts models of TDZ 103HL and Fuego... Does any of that stuff fit. Guess I should get off my butt and try them!

Is Tackle Trap still the best option now that they reopened?
