If one had delusions about using a baitcaster to fish for trout in streams using 1/8 oz and 1/4 oz lures  and that individual had little excess money to spend for a reel  :'((50-100 dollars) and if he had machine capabilities and knew about super-tuning reels, what would be a good light weight reel (around 7 oz. or less) for this delusional person to use? I'm not saying I know this person 8-) but he seems harmless enough, he just wants to fish finesse without spending several hundred dollars, which his family will probably really appreciate . so let's leave the pixy's and such out of the picture, at least for now. From what I know about this individual, he has no desire to use the practical spinning outfit for this endeavor, he likes to be difficult ;D

I would stick with a good spinning reel in that price range. A symetre would be a good choice.

Your right he is a delusional person. Even if he does have the abilities and knowledge to super tune, he isn't going to find a 7oz. or under reel in that price range. If you had been looking in the catalogs, you will have noticed that all of the really good finesse baitcasters built today are going to run in the upper $100 to $250 and up marks, and only a few are at the 7oz or below range.

Like jayhawkfishin I would recommend that he get into a nice spinning rig for trout in streams.

Had looked at the prolite finesse as a choice. Had not realized it was on sale. Do you know for how long? Maybe the extreme lite also, even though both of them are at 8 oz.

At present the reel being used is an old Shimano Bantam Crestfire that has been disassembled, cleaned and what little could be done to it to improve casting. Before disassembling was casting 25+ yds. with 1/4 oz weigh using 5'6" bps tourney special ML rod rated at 1/16 to 1/2 oz. and 6 to 14 lb. line. This was using line of unknown weight and age but was definitely old and much line curl when it was removed to disassemble. Have not restrung it as of yet so I don't know what improvements I made. I do know that the spool would stop almost instantly when spun before working on it and now it will spin about 3 seconds before stopping. I'm sure the two BPS reels can beat it in performance and quality. The reel chosen will possibly be used for bass one or two times a year and maybe once or twice a month for trout. Not a big fisherman he is, but enjoys it once in a while. That's one reason why the budget is low, don't need a $2,000 Martin guitar just to amuse mysel... er ... himself

i would get a bps rick clunn reel.i have no problems casting 1/4 oz lures on it.
