Native Hammer anyone try it?

Featured Replies

Did you buy one? Did you test one? Did you go to the store and look at one? There's a couple YouTube reviews they don't spend much time on how comfortable it is or how it handles. Several complain about the swivel seat moving all over the place. I'd like to know how it compares to any other pedal or fin drive as far as speed, turning radius, chop, wind etc. Motor test front and rear.

thanks

I do admit, all the Natives look exactly the same to me.  just shorter, longer.. this one is supposed to have a better pedal system??

the videos I do see of the boats, the people have so much water at their feet.  I wonder if the Hammer  took care of this.  :D

Had a Titan 12 for a number of years. Just use the scupper plugs. Problem solved. I don’t know how some people just live with soggy feet throughout a full 8 hour tourney.

Titan X owner here. In my opinion, the hammer looks slightly better thought out as far as customization goes. I assume it’s also a bit faster due to the slightly narrower and more streamlined design.

Not sold on the foldable peddle drive. Looks like it would get in the way of mounting electronics on a captain’s bridge and that’s a big deal breaker to me.

If you’re using a captains bridge I think they assume you’re under power. If so the drive might not even be in the kayak or stowed on the back. When I had a trolling motor setup I ditched the pedals and my backup was paddles.

If I was in the market for a new kayak, this would be one that I would consider.

would you buy another Titan? Do you have the 10.5 or the 12.5? Does it feel slow? How does it handle chop and wind?

I have the Titan X 10.5 and have no regrets buying it. I had an old town pdl 106 before it, and the Titan is much more comfortable with the higher seat (I’m 6’6) and more stable. I use the pedals and don’t have any plans to add a motor, but the Titan is a bit slower than the old town was, at least for peddling. I really love how customizable the Titan is though. I have a garmin 106sv mounted on a captain’s bridge with FFS too. I have it set up so it only takes me about 2 minutes at the ramp to get on/off the water. It’s heavy but not unbearable if you’re younger or in decent shape.

Not the person you asked specifically, but I’d absolutely buy a Titan 12.5 again. I felt incredibly safe even in white caps on the TVA system. The boat with rudder upgrade was nimble and responsive.

Slow is more about your comfort level and fitness. It’s a big boat. No lying or sugar coating it. If you can pedal a bike solid for 15-30 minutes your going to be ok. If it’s your first time out all year you’re going to feel it in your thighs, but after a couple trips you won’t even notice.

I used a bed extender and had no issues loading or unloading as an American sized IT professional. I’m not in shape, and haven’t been in 20 years.

As 5by3 said it’s an amazing platform. I went from bone stock for a year to ending up with a spot lock bow mount and graphs by year 4 and the rig was just as stable and great to fish from.
