New to Michigan, looking for spots

Featured Replies

Originally from Pennsylvania, but I've recently moved to the Ann Arbor, MI area and looking forward to the upcoming fishing season. Anyone know of any good bass spots relatively close? Unfortunately I don't have a boat at the moment so anywhere with at least halfway decent bank/shore fishing would be ideal

Schultz Outfiiters would be a GREAT place to start that journey. They are in Ypsilanti, not far from you.

There should be areas on the Huron you can fish on foot, they would definitely be able to help you in that regard... They have a fly shop and tackle shop, guide service, etc...

I highly recommend getting the Sportsman Connection Fishing Map book for your area, which would be the Southeast one:

Sporting goods stores, bait shops, grocery stores and gas stations will often have these as well. Not every accessible body of water will be in there, but all the major ones will be, and they include survey and stocking information for some places. Just be sure to take the detailed advice on how to fish each place with a grain of salt, lol.

Huron River is right in your backyard and an excellent smallie river. The area by Dexter can be very easily waded, while downstream by Flat Rock is deeper and better on a boat, canoe, or kayak.

+1 for Schultz Outfitters. They're having an angler's expo next Saturday right by their shop, you should go. I'm going with a friend of mine. If you go t to Schultz enough, you'd probably run into my as I stop in frequently to chat with Matt on the G Side.

The angler's expo is free.
