Daiwa T3 InFo?

Featured Replies

Anybody have any insight on this reel? Worth it to grab one? What makes it different?

Also, is this issue pervasive through this model?

Stuck inductor can/has happen to other models not just T3 and not just 3d braking.

T3 at a good price is worth a shot.

What makes it worth a shot and what would be a good price?

Economics weight casting spool control spool options.

I dont follow used reel prices much. I just googled T3 and doesn't look like a good price to be had on a decent condition T3. I got mine for $200 new some years ago so was thinking a 100 or so. At the prices I just scanned $175 plus it's a pass.

They can be found for less than $150. Some scratches. MSRP was $429 in 2011. $175 or a bit higher for one in very good to excellent condition is a decent price IMHO.

T3 and its variations have the unique Magforce 3D design, which is in the sideplate. You can match it with any modern 34mm spool, including SV spools, and the result is a wide casting weight range. T3 1016 or the T3 SV can be found in JDM used market around $100-120. T3 mx would be even cheaper.

They use the first generation of t-wing, so the t shape line guide doesn't flip up and down. It's the front "hood" that does the job. One thing worth noting is that the front hood, as well as the entire carbon body, is very prone to scratches and chips.

Zion frame, I saw one broken at BPS just after the release of the reel (reel foot) I owned one, no power, flex, and the hood was weird. Gave it to my son and he still has it but keeps it for sentimental reasons. (I’m trying to get the spool back 😂

Personally thought the T3 line was garbage. I've had the silver T3, and the FX68 Viola from MB. The issue with the inductor was only with the T3 ballistic and basic black T3 from Japan, these two had the cheapest spools of all the T3 variants. Fix was pretty easy, though, superglue, or epoxy will do the job.

Maybe... maybe used as a bfs platform they'd be ok. Wouldn't pay more than $100 for one. The flex was noticeable when fighting average fish.

Thanks for the insight yall

I'll steer myself in another direction

What were your thoughts on this one?

Much smoother under load compared to the silver T3 and the standard black T3, but i also had it fully upgraded to 11 ball bearings. But i just did not like the frame on these reels at all. On the Viola, another thing that was messed up is that purchased it around now, like mid February years ago, and from just playing with the reel, waiting for late March to get on the water, from just spinning the handle like you'd with a new reel, the rubber sticker on the top of the hood peeled up within a month. Without even being on the water, the sticker just bubble up, and peeled. I don't understand what the hell is that design, and has anybody tested it before release? You can't just use such weak double sided tape to hold that black grip sticker, that's ridiculous.

Really am not a fan of these plastic things. And forgot to mention, i had the T3 Air as well.

I might be the minority here but I actually quite enjoy using T3 platform reels. Yes they bruise easily, but I don't have any problem using them against feisty smallies or muskies.

I like mine as well. Wasn't previously aware that some had indicator problems. When I go from a T3 to another reel, I find myself pushing down on the non-existent cover for a few casts. 😄

I've got a couple of them I picked up a couple years ago. I have one of the silver ones that I think is the T3 1016? Also have one of the orange SV versions.

I kind of like them! Mine are comfortable, cast well, and haven't given me any issues.

I put the silver 1016 on one of my wife's rods. The 3D braking is kind of nice because if she is struggling and having a bad day, she can bump the switch to increase the overall braking to "Max" position, and if she's in the groove and doing well, she can open it up to Normal or Long Cast.

She seems to like it.

I almost always recommend a T3 for a beginner to learn on. Set right they are extremely hard to backlash and still able to cast decent fishing distance. My older Exsence DC is in the same class as far as being able to set up backlash proof and still get good distance.
