Carbontex drag washer sets for the Curado 200DHSV.

Tight Lines All!!

Hmmmm, Carbontex drag washers, Abec 5s instead of Abec 3s, what else you 've got David to make them Curados the ultimate castin ' machine ?

Raul,

That should be enough....  ;)

But when servicing any of the Shimano® reels, if the spool has the long shaft, I love to polish the shaft and the inside of the pinion....

That alone will improve casting even before the installation of the ABEC5's..

Going to be ordering the new Carbontex washers for the Zillion today...

I'm for that!!!!

David are the BB of the Zillion the same  of the TD-Z?

Reelmech, if I may be so bold, what are you using to polish the shafts and pinions? I've tried my Dremel, with a felt wheel and some jeweler's rouge to do the shaft, but had no idea how to do the inside of the pinion gear without increasing the inner diameter, or taking it out of round or off center. Thanks for any insight you have to offer.

Cheers,

GK

lubina,

I believe the Old TD-Z has all Stainless BB's, I forget the total count.

The Zillion or what I call the revamped TD-Z, has 4CRBB (corrosion resistant), 2BB (stainless), 1RB (IAR).

ghoti,

Sure no problem.

First put your felt wheel and jeweler's rouge away..

I use an old wooden cotton swab with the cotton ends cut off, as a small dia. mandrel. I use the wooden ones you can find in catalogs, I never have to worry about scratching or gouging any of the metal parts with the mandrel.

I then slit one end carefully with a razor blade about 1/4" into the end of the mandrel. Then the secret is I use a 1500grit. wet/dry paper cut into long 1/4" wide strips used dry. I cut the strip into 1/2"x1/4" pieces. Now I take the piece and slide it into the slot in the end of my mandrel, place it into my Dremel, and get it turning at about a 3 or higher on the variable speed.

I then lay the turning piece, against my finger to get the paper to roll a little on the mandrel as I insert into the pinion. The key here is using and in/out oscillation at a high speed a couple three in/out oscillations and check for a high shine, once you have accomplished this you have removed any and all oxidation that has formed on the metal over time. As for the spool shaft I use another piece in the same mandrel and rotate the spool with my fingers as I work around the shaft and shaft ends both sides.

This is the procedure I have been using since my training days at Shimano®..

You can also use this procedure to polish the brass brake race, and brass shims. Use the paper and then use a cotton swab dipped into some brasso, swab it onto the race or shims let dry then use a q-tip with one end remove, placed into the dremel set it at about a medium speed and polish.

This procedure, along with "really" clean and properly oiled spool support bearings will increase the free spool ability of any reel with a long shaft.

It takes some time but IMPO is worth it, I guess you can ask anyone here that I have serviced. It is a standard procedure for me, most shops charge about $20.00 for it.

I hope this makes sense to you, it has been a long day in the shop..

Perfectly, thank you again. I was worried about removing too much material from the inside of the pinion using any kind of sandpaper. nifty trick with the wooden q-tips.

Sorry it took so long for me to say thanks. I forgot that I'd asked you this question. The recent post about super-tuning reminded me. I took me a while to find this thread.

I still find it amazing that you freely give away the hard-earned knowledge gained from your years of experience. I mean, you're giving away the secrets to your livelihood. This is, in my experience, is totally unprecedented, and truly appreciated.

Thank you so much for all the advice you give.
