What to do with my new/old Fenwick Boron X

Featured Replies

Hi everyone.

My friend gave me his old fishing rod and I am looking for some recommendation for which lure set-up I should use this rod for.

Here is all info I can read off from rod.

Fenwick Boron X

XTC 556   5 1/2'

6 power

3/8 - 1 oz. Lure

10-25 lb. Line

Any input/suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I have used Fenwicks for years, but I never heard of that one. That is a heavy duty rod for sure. Try it with soft plastics or jigs.

5 1/2 foot, probably a pistol grip; says spinnerbait to me, maybe jerkbaits too.

Cheers,

Boron fenwicks are from the 1980's I'm surprised any survived. They are very light and wicked fast and one little chip will blowup.

aIf they ever got boron sorted out you would never hear about graphit rods again.

Garnet

I had a Daiwa Boron back in the 80's and didn't know about the problems with them until I joined here. I'm with Garnet on this. I really didn't have anything to compare it to, it was my first rod that wasn't 'glass. I don't think I've ever even picked up a rod that impressed me more.

The one you have is heavier than the one I had. I used mine for just about everything (my only set-up at the time). You won't get the distance with it as you would a longer rod but the answers so far sound good to me.
