Gave the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser a try......

Featured Replies

and it gets 10/10 stars from me :)  Took me about ten minutes to do 8 rods using just the eraser and a slow stream of hot water.  Mind you, this was at least 8 years worth of dirt.  It just rubbed right off and I didn't even have to work at it.  Cork looks brand new.  MANY thanks to the original poster who tried this out and posted about it. 8-)

great idea i have never thought about!! i used rubbing alcohol with a sponge to clean my cork on my rods are every season :)

that magic eraser is truly magic....i use that for a 100 different things & its great.ill have to try it on the rods now

Now that you have them clean you need to seal them and keep them that way.

Reelmech,

I know you have put up that info before but I cant find it in a search, do you mind telling us what you use to seal the corks.  Thanks again.

He uses U-40 Cork Sealer.  It's on his site.  It's good stuff by the way.  He told me what to do and I followed his instructions.  This cork sealer is in a small bottle.  When I received it, I thought to myself that it would not be enough.  Man was I wrong.  I did 10 rods with it and didn't use half of it.  Now I just use soap and water and dirt just comes right off.

Woo hoo! glad you liked it also. Using rubbing alcohol or denatured alcohol makes it dry a lot faster also. Also I have a question to everyone, does using the cork sealer change the feel of the cork? Or does it retain the natural cork feeling after being treated? Thanks for any info :)

Not in the least.  You won't be able to tell the difference.
