Trolling Motor Electrical Issues - Help Please

Featured Replies

Would anyone be kind enough to help a lost soul diagnose some trolling motor electrical problems? I'm struggling to find a schematic or a parts list.

It's a 12V Motorguide X3 55#-thrust foot-control, a little over two years old. This week, the intermittent switch stopped working, regardless of the speed setting. If I move the 3-position switch to "continuous", it works fine on all speeds.

1) When I jump across the two connections on the intermittent switch on the underside of the foot pedal, the motor runs fine. Does that confirm this switch is faulty, or not necessarily?

2) Is it possible the problem is in the plastic part on top of the foot pedal that activates this switch? It's hard for me to see what the plastic piece is doing to make contact across that switch.

3) Any reliable online parts supply you'd recommend?

Thanks for any and all comments!

That sounds like the micro switch is out. That has always been an issue with MG. When I ran one I always carried a spare in the boat.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. That was my guess but had never run into that before. It seems like a good place to start. Any recommendations for an online source?

Not on line but my electronics guys are Marine Repair in Springfield MO.

417-833-9191. If they don’t have one they should be able to guide you to a source.
